Hey. Thanks for coming.

For the past two months, because of stress, inspiration or a need for escapism from my life, I have been working on a WoD Vampire campaign world. Two nights ago I had this idea for a small game that oughtn't take too long to run which takes place in the world I've created and could be a prelude to something greater or just a diversion.

The premise is simple. It takes place in Asbury Park which has recently been taken back from the Sabbat who had been running it into the ground for the past decade or so making it into a ghost town. The Camarilla's back and they're trying to rebuild and breathe new life into the resort town. Most vampires aren't more than a century old, the exceptions being the more powerful vampires and the vampires who have come in from outside to stabilize things. The PCs will be young vampires who might be out to make a name, just get by in vampire society or some other motive. This story will happen during the summertime and happen at a local event that involves mortals.

Part of me wonders how much to divulge about the plot, another part is nervous about proposing this because Diane has her game trundling along at a nice clip and finally would I be able to run a game?

Anyway it's just something I'm bringing up to see if anyone's interested. No big deal if folks aren't interested or it would disrupt the current game's rhythm.

Now for a wee bit about my game.

Character creation for my campaign:

Basic stats: 7/5/3 attributes, 13/9/5 abilities, 4 disciplines, 5 backgrounds, 7 virtues, 15 freebies, using second edition rules.

Generation costs TWO points a dot, not one point a dot. The trade-off is you get the extra discipline dot. Characters are younger than a century. All Camarilla clans. Giovanni are welcome like Camarilla. Other independent clans and bloodlines need my permission with backgrounds that would say why they were in Asbury Park. No Sabbat, no Sabbat antitribu.

Please consider these questions and answer them for me:

  • Why would you join this group?
  • Why were you embraced?
  • What are your feelings on the Traditions?

At the request of Buddha I have included links to sites that have a listing of vampiric merits and flaws. I am allowing vampiric merits and flaws from third edition simply because the V:tM Player's Guide is such a rare book to find in stores. Merits and Flaws!! Squawk!

Whee! I have a campaign idea that would be run using the HERO system. The idea isn't that complex, the Earth happens to be in an alien empire which spans this arm of the galaxy. Since Earth is undeveloped and primitive compared to the empire they have been largely ignored until now. The empire has been in combat with an outside force seeking to completely destroy the empire and the homeworlds within regardless of their affiliation or knowledge of the empire. Currently the empire is on the ropes and getting desperate so they're starting to recruit from the primitive worlds to fill out ranks and Earth is one of the homeworlds visited and experiences first contact. The empire describes their plight and makes an attractive case to Earth for them to lend whatever meager assistance to the cause, Earth accepts.

From there humans are conscripted, Earth is given technology, the moon and asteroids are stripmined for resources and people go out and die for the empire and Earth. That's where the story begins. Just need to create the dominant species of the empire, a few of the various conscripted species who make up the minor world council (like Earth), the adversary race and whatever else might be necessary to fill out the supporting cast of this story which is largely unwritten.

I only have the two main conflicts which the PCs will be faced with down, one being the great war and the other I'm keeping quiet since it's important to the story.

Requirements

Here are the rules:

  • Starting Character Creation Rules
    • Attributes: 7/5/3
    • Abilities: 13/9/5
    • Advantages: 4/5/7/15
      • Yes, four discipline points.
    • The background generation costs TWO points a dot.

Disallowed

  • Dark Ages Clans and discipline tricks
  • Sabbat & Black Hand clans
  • Age background
  • Kinetics discipline (outcasts book)
  • Black Hand disciplines
  • Bardo
  • Daimoinon
  • Dementation
  • Melpominee
  • Obeah $
  • Vicissitude $
  • Sanguinus
  • Visceratika
  • Self-Confidence
  • Iron Will (talk to me)
  • Jack-of-All-Trades
  • Danger Sense
  • Destiny
  • Charmed Existence
  • Guardian Angel
  • True Faith
  • Dark Fate
  • Efficient Digestion

Please note the Personal Masquerade (3pt Social Merit):
You have successfully convinced the Kindred that you are actually a member of a clan. You may gain Clan Prestige, achieve a certain level of rank within the clan and possibly even rise to become a leader of the clan in your area some day. But as with the Masquerade in general, you must hide the truth even from your friends. The higher you go in Clan Prestige, the more dangerous your personal Masquerade bcomes. No one likes to be played for a fool, and the Kindred are not known for their forgiving natures. You need to be constantly vigilant, and you must always remember the flaw that your "adoptive" clan suffers from. For example, a Ventrue's prey exclusion does not necessarily affect you, but if you've been gaining nourishment only from elderly matrons and then switch to hunting attractive young women, members of the Ventrue are likely to notice.

If you want to play a Setite, a clan which is wholly unwelcome in the city, then you can take this merit but then things will become very dangerous for your character considering what your true clan might be. This is a common background for caitiff and independent clans or bloodlines.

When creating your character, answer these questions.

  • Why would you join this group?
  • Why were you embraced?
  • What are your feelings on the Traditions?

Disciplines marked with a $ are allowed with a good reason but developing them beyond level two will be dangerous for your character considering their effects upon the vampires who know the disciplines. The other banned disciplines are banned because they are specific to various clans / bloodlines and have not been known to have spread beyond those groups being jealously guarded secrets.

I need a general outline of who your contacts and allies are in the game.

The game's timeline will be taking place nearly a year after Asbury Park was put under Camarilla control, the date is May 2001.

Clans

Clans with an asterisk (*) are forbidden. Clans marked with a question mark (?) need to be discussed with me.

Tremere
The Tremere were in the forefront of taking Asbury Park from the Sabbat in the Three Nights of Fire. The Prince of Asbury Park is a Tremere who is a man of little patience and few words, he maintains his power by his prowess and aptitude.

Toreador
The Toreador are a small clan but they are well liked. Their primogen is close with the Malkavian primogen claiming that the Malkavian is a source of inspiration.

Nosferatu
There are only two Nosferatu in Asbury Park, the only one who is seen on a regular basis and known by name is the primogen. There may be others (like you) but they are the smallest clan.

Ventrue
The Ventrue have no designs upon the throne of Asbury Park because they already run Asbury Park, their influence being directed into the revitalization of this former Jersey shore ghost town. The centerpiece of Asbury Park's rebirth is the casino which is currently under construction.

Brujah
Considered ruffians and rabble by their Kindred cousins, the current Brujah primogen is trying to change that image. She is an iconoclast who is working closely with the Ventrue, her goals are unknown at the time.

Gangrel
If there aren't any caitiff to rough up, there are always the Gangrel who are low man on the totem pole in Asbury Park. They mostly stay in the nearby Pine Barrens keeping their distance from other kindred and lupines.

Malkavian
The children of Malkav are scattered, unorganized and seem to have no interest in the politics or dramas which affect Asbury Park. Their primogen is the sole face of this clan and carries more influence than one would believe.

Caitiff
Whipping boys and girls of all vampires. They do the dirty work no one else will do in hopes of prestige or respect and rarely achieve it. Most are bitter and untrustworthy considering their treatment by both factions.

Assamites ?
There are always one or two assamites in Asbury Park under contract with the major clans, usually Tremere, Brujah or Ventrue. Assamites still bear the blood curse that the Tremere placed upon them centuries ago in this campaign.

Followers of Set ?
There are no setites in Asbury Park nor are they welcome. As with the Sabbat, all Camarilla kindred have right of destruction when it comes to this particular clan.

Giovanni
The Giovanni are patroned by the Ventrue and have a non-voting seat on the primogen council considering the influence of their patron and their contribution towards rebuilding Asbury Park to a bustling resort town.

Ravnos
There are no known Ravnos who live in Asbury Park, the few who do travel through claim patronage of the Gangrel and are treated accordingly.

Salubri *
Salubri are not to be killed if captured, they are to be brought to the Prince for destruction. There has not been a sighting of a Salubri in New Jersey for more than a century.

Daughters of Cacophany *
There are no Daughters of Cacophany in Asbury Park nor do any of the major clans claim to be their patrons.

Samedi
There are no Samedi in Asbury Park nor do any of the major clans claim to be their patrons. According to most Nosferatu there have not been many Samedi who have gone further north than Virginia.

Lasombra *
Centered in Atlantic City, the Lasombra have held control of New Jersey for more than a century.

Tzimisce *
The Tzimisce are rare in New Jersey but it is rumored that certain classes of rural folk are New World revenant families under the patronage of the Fiends.

Clan Antitribu *
Antitribu of the major clans are forbidden from entering Asbury Park and may be destroyed once there is sufficient evidence of their philosophical leanings. Lasombra or Tzimisce antitribu are unknown in New Jersey, Philadelphia or New York having been taken care of by the Sabbat or killed for the simple fact that they are members of those clans.

Lupines *
The lupines call the Pine Barrens their home and are currently on good terms with the Camarilla, this alliance is one of the major factors keeping the Sabbat from retaking the city. The lupines took no part in the Three Nights of Fire. The Pine Barrens are verboten to all except the Gangrel who have a small reserve put aside for them far from areas special to the lupines.

Magi *
New Jersey is not known for harboring any magi of any stripe. The only mage of note dwells in New York City and he has no associations with other supernaturals.
