Posts from before I left. Message 117738 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Ha, 65 new messages and they're P7 and Jaybird
Message 117739 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Oh that GreyDruid! Logging in as a guest to post to *anon.
Message 117740 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): > Ha, 65 new messages and they're P7 and Jaybird Message 117741 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I have a sticker. It is designed like those Jesus fish stickers. This sticker is for Cthulhu. I stuck the sticker onto the top of my laptop.
Message 117742 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I also put a Weird NJ bumper sticker on my car's bumper.
Message 117743 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): If you see a 15 foot truck with Budget Rentals on the side with Florida plates accompanied by a black 1991 Grand Am with the front radiator bit broken out then you will probably be seeing me and my friend driving cross country.
Message 117784 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I'm going to miss this set up. Computer at the desk. Cable TV to my right (with remote). Telephone to my left. Air conditioner behind me. If only I had a toilet and a bachelor fridge I'd be set for life or a weekend whichever is longer.
Message 117788 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Every time I see the truck parked in the driveway I'm reminded that I'm moving and wonder why I am moving.
Message 117789 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I should make lunch then head over to the storage area to pick up a set of jumper cables.
Message 117791 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): When do you head out? Seeing a truck in the driveway is definitely weird, especially when you're all alone (as I was, too).
Message 117792 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I leave tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m..
Message 117793 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I've been by myself for most of the weekend because my sister is at Long Beach Island.
Message 117794 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): When I type @quit I'll be gone for a while.
Message 117795 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): So I'll just idle here and there.
Message 117796 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): And I'll be changing the name of the list.
Message 117801 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Have a nice jounrey, spivak! Are you going to be logging on at all from the road?
Message 117802 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Ah. Guess not.
Message 117803 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): We'll miss u!!!!!!!!!! ;););););););)
Message 117806 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I don't think I'll log on again for a while because I have to wait for the telephone to get set up at the apartment and aquire an ISP. On the road I'll just keep notes on paper and compose them at the motels or whenever I have free time.
Message 117836 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): ehehhhehe

Message 117837 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Farewell!!!!
Message 117838 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Bye!!!
Message 117839 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I think I missed talking to spivak before he left :(
Selected outtakes from *stonecutters posted while I was offline. Message 117841 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): How did my home state wind up in this list's name? Is spivak coming here?
Message 117842 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Yes. PAY ATTENTION.
Message 117843 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Good point. He has been talking about it for a while now.
Message 117844 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): YAY! SPIVAK'S MOVING HERE!!!
Message 117845 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Pay attention? Like I have time to read every undeleted message on the list, when I can just ask you folx. :P
Message 117846 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I thought Kayti was Kylie and I was going to say "I wonder what Kayti would say".. but then realized it was Kayti after all.
Message 117847 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Oh, Kayti.. spivak won't fuck you unless you gain 100 pounds or so. Better get started now. Try a 24 hour fast food joint.
Message 117868 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I doubt that spivak will drop by Raisin Acres. For a while, it has been unusual for me to be found at my main residence. Considering recent events (my mother's funeral over the weekend), he may think that I would not be home. He still has a key to the house, but I doubt that he would be brazen enough to stop by for one last embrace with /The_Cat/.
St. Louis Time Posts Message 118093 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): There has not been a Budget Rent a Truck thundering up my street yet
Message 118095 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Where should I take them to dinner?
Message 118096 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Spiv and Brian probably stopped at a rest stop for some wacky anal sheenanigans.
Message 118097 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Some place cheap.
Message 118225 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Did I forget to mention that spivak was going on a cross country killing spree with his sock puppet named Brian?
Message 118246 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Oh no!!! Spivak and hhsb are both lying in a ditch!!
Message 118247 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): That's the only possible explanation for why she hasn't logged in!!!11
Message 118248 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): And it's all your fault.
P7A77 expresses sadness that people worried about me travelling cross country when nobody worried about him. Poor li'l guy. Message 118254 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Nobody cared so much about me when /I/ drove across the country. *weep* FEEL LOVED, SPIVAK, WHEREVER YOU ARE!!!
Message 118255 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): You drove one state away. Get some perspective.
Message 118256 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Spivak is special. He's moving cross country via a short bus and he's wearing a helmet!
Message 118257 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Yeah, but the southeastern part of one state to the northern western edge of the longest state in the country. And I went on 101 through LA at night during rush hour in a tropical storm. Actually, LA wasn't so bad, but the hills just outside of it really sucked.
Message 118258 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): FEEL FOR ME
Message 118259 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Couldn't we just feel you instead?
Message 118260 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Sold!
Message 118261 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): > Yeah, but the southeastern part of one state to the northern Message 118262 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Is Alaska longer than California? I mean linear distance here...
Message 118263 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): http://www.lib.utexas.edu /maps /united_states /alaska_90.jpg Message 118264 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Even if you factor out the scraggly southern ends, it's still a good 11+ degrees.
Message 118265 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Are the parallels equal distances on the surface, or equal in elevation? Either way, Alaska is longer
Message 118266 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): raisins
Message 118267 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I've had this weird craving for raisins of late... hm....
Message 118268 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I have some in the cupboard. Come to me little girl. la la la Message 118269 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I think it's over the surface, roughly. Imagine a right angle with the intersection at the center of the earth, the X axis shooting out into the equator, the 90-degree angle going out through the north pole. If the earth is a sphere (which it isn't, since it bulges out slightly in the middle), then the parrallels mark the points where an angle would exit the earth. The 45th parrallel would be exactly between the equator and the pole.
Message 118270 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Texas may be longer than California, too. At least in one direction. El Paso is closer to the Pacific than the Atlantic, anyway.
Message 118271 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Thanks for talking to me like I'm a dumbfuck. I thought the wording of my question implied at least a basic understanding of geometry.
Message 118272 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I thought I phrased that for people with a basic understanding of geometry. I mean, if you don't know what degrees and angles are, it'd be hard to follow. |
Message 118274 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): So, I bore people, and I make them feel like idiots. These are nice things to know.
Message 118275 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): The map I used: http://www.lib.utexas.edu /maps /united_states /texas_90.jpg
Message 118276 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): So explain to me why airplanes don't fly in straight lines across the country! F'rinstance, if you had two cities on the same parallel, it wouldn't follow the parallel.
Message 118277 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Are you two still talking about that long/lat thing? Message 118278 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): RAISINS Message 118279 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): > F'rinstance, if you had two cities on the same parallel, Message 118280 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Ah, wait.
Message 118281 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Well, the longitude lines are straight on the sphere... the paralleles are only as such in elevation. I forget the exact term.. great arc or something.
Message 118282 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): They don't fly along the parallel because the hub cities aren't located on paralells. They're all over the place. Geesh.
Message 118283 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): It wouldn't be the shortest distance. It's actually the arc of a different circle. The arc of the earth would fall a bit north of a parrallel (a bit south in the southern hemisphere). The only parrallel you can travel is the equator.
Message 118284 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Now explain it to me like I've five!
Message 118285 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Yeah, great arc. That's the term. The equator is a great arc. Lattitude lines are, too.
Message 118286 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Raisins only look aerodynamic.
Message 118287 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Or is it longitude lines? Whatever the meridians are.
Message 118288 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): > Now explain it to me like I've five! Message 118289 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): So is space/time planar, parabolic, or hyperbolic?
Message 118290 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): It's juicy and full of bunly goodness.
And that's where things started to fall apart. Thankfully hhsb posted and it helped Jaybird breathe a sigh of relief. Message 118301 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): SHE'S STILL ALIVE!!!! PRAISE JESUS!!!!
Message 118302 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I knew she would be.
Message 118303 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Give us all the gory details!!! Did he nail you?
Message 118304 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): uh, no
Message 118305 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Well, are there any gory details?
Message 118306 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I took his friend to AutoZone because they lost the gas cap to the rental truck.
Message 118307 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): We went to dinner at a welsh bar and those two eat a lot.
Message 118308 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): And I took them down to the arch and we hung out on the riverfront for a bit.
Message 118309 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I'm not much of the hostess at home, though.
Message 118310 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): He has some pictures of it all.
Message 118311 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): When did he leave? What time will he be arriving in Tulsa?
Message 118312 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): They left about 10:45 this morning and probably got to Tulsa at 5
Message 118313 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): YAY! NOW I GET TO ASK DEVO REALLY PERSONAL QUESTIONS!!!
Message 118314 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): @who dvo Message 118315 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Why isn't Devo logged on? Did something go wrong? Oh... they're all dead in a ditch! I just know it!
Message 118335 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I don't know about the rest of them that are crying "Where spivvie?" but Jaybird is more interested in spivak than in P7 because *spivak* is moving to our same apartment building and hence if anything happens to him en route Jaybird would feel not only bereaved, but responsible. Well, also spivak is a lot nicer to him. I am personally trying to not get all agitated on the list because I am Insisting To Myself that Everything Will Be Fine and getting all agitated would interfere with that. Though now that I know they got to hhsb's and (one hopes) are now at Devo's, I feel much less concerned.
Message 118400 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): so hsb was meeting spiv like you thought it would be?
Message 118401 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): it brings to mind all the dreams he has with you in them.
Message 118402 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): dont know why.
Message 118403 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): well
Message 118404 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): :)
Message 118405 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I'm not sure that I expected anything
Message 118406 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I am not the Martha Stewart housekeeper though. I would spaz when my stuff got disturbed.
Message 118407 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): everyone expects something when they meet someone for the first time. *Something*
Message 118408 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): but it's quite ok not to share it.
Message 118409 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Just come out and say what you're really trying to get at
Message 118410 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I am in no mood to be obtuse
Message 118411 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Well, okay then... what city?
Message 118412 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Ah, St. Louis. Yes.
The posts leading up to my impending arrival in Colorado. Message 118468 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Forgive my ignorance, but does it snow where you are, maribou?
Message 118502 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Tonight, I go home and wait for spivak.
Message 118503 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I hope he likes us.
Message 118504 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): The Birds are so lame that they have to ship in friends from other states. But that's okay, because we couldn't even get anyone to move to Tucson. We had to move ourselves.
Message 118505 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): We need a friend with wacky sleeping habits. All of our friends now are square.
Message 118508 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Jaybird, are you moist with anticipation of his arrival?
Message 118511 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): I am just nervous.
Message 118524 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): It does snow here, Kylie, but more in October and March than in December. And it usually doesn't stay on the ground for more than a couple days before it gets melted away by the sun. It thunderstorms a lot though. And sometimes it's really fucking cold. But nothing like Eastern-Canada cold.
Message 118530 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Maribou just talked to Spivak! He's at the Colorado border!!!
Message 118531 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): He should be here in 3-4 hours. He has to drive through Limon, most likely. He's taking I-70.
Message 118532 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Now the Oklahoma cops can't touch him!
Message 118533 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): He just has to deal with Bigfoot, now.
Message 118534 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): He *is* Bigfoot.
Message 118535 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): 2-3 hours now.
Message 118545 on *The Raisin Gallery (#213): Less than a couple hours now. Possibly less than one.
