ante diem x kalends june 2003 c.e. Wednesday was busy and it felt like a Tuesday. The weather's been rainy and thundery which gives me great pleasure. The clouds and the mountains really emphasize how three dimensional the world is since the mountains form a wall and the clouds become a ceiling. What's even more lovely is when the light hits the mountains just right and the slopes show a wonderful green color and every foothill is brought into detail. A Fire Upon the Deep keeps reading as one of the more adorable books because one of the storylines deals with these aliens who live in packs and the packs are the seat of consciousness. Should one of the members of the pack become wounded or killed then the pack is thrown into disarray. I just think it's so damned cute with these puppydogs jumping around, being all important calling themselves Woodcarvers and Flensers and fighting wars while wearing little green army coats. When they introduced the younger protagonist to a pack of puppies I just couldn't see these interstellar pooches as being sinister. |
