Just noticed the damnedest thing. I wanted to hear A Warm Place. When I went to play it, the song wouldn't play at all. Yet when it segued in from Big Man with a Gun the song played through to the end.
Just weird.

Upon reflection I have discerned one of my prior issues with being a game master who is creating his own modules rather than using something off-the-shelf. First and foremost I want to tailor the game to please the participants who constantly surprise me with their takes on the plot.
At worst I will feel confounded not being able to get right to the point with the story because I'm trying to get everyone up to speed letting important things fall by the wayside.
Of course my ego rises to the surface rather than remaining an easily managed shadow in dark waters. There are things which I consider to be so cool that they must appear but only serve to detract from the game. The game is about the players, I merely adjudicate the rules and try to kill everyone.
With the reboot of Asbury Park by Night I've found myself very goal-oriented with my writing. I'm not trying to get praise for myself through the game nor am I attempting to please everyone. At the moment I am staying true to the plot, avoiding the other story arcs which would lead to the penultimate chapter, and making sure that X, Y and Z happen during the session regardless if it takes one hour or five hours.
The game appears more purposeful and hopefully the players will be far more involved rather than simply tolerating the game master pretending to be John Galt for an entire session.
