At this juncture of my evening after therapy I've decided I'm going to continue to postpone things that I keep intending to write here at heptapod.org.

No, I don't feel guilty because Lee's heard more than an earful from me. Therapy was a bit of a help but I still do not believe I have perspective on the source of my trouble.

Instead, gentle reader, I'm going out to eat dinner. Do what thou wilt for it is the whole of the Law. Or you can just read Fish's response to a recent entry. Thank you, Fish for giving content when I am unwilling to produce any for my website. Kiss kiss.

Here's hoping there isn't a shitstorm.

I think you've got it nearly backward: Previously, the government had provided a limited form of laissez faire encased in a framework of rules intended to keep everyone honest. To stray outside this framework meant punishment in the form of fines or some other, more severe punishment based on the severity of the infraction.

During the last regime, these rules were either weakened to the point of toothlessness or done away with altogether, resulting in a system in which nobody was watching to make sure everyone at least gave lip service to being honest. And let's face it: Often, people will choose to do the wrong thing when they think they'll get away with it.

The government also encouraged banks to relax the rules on who qualified for home loans, promising incentives and protection to these financial institutions, resulting in the current credit crunch when--SURPRISE--people who couldn't previously secure an affordable home loan proved that they still couldn't secure a home loan. Adding to the maelstrom were those who took advantage of flaky loan programs (interest-only, balloon payments, etc) to buy homes they couldn't afford.

In the end, the framework is necessary because people can't always be trusted to do the right thing or the smart thing when money is involved.

(Aside: I have to admit to being embarrassed to the point of not wanting to discuss politics because of my support of Obama and his subsequent "fumbling" of the economic mess. Who knows? Maybe his ideas will pan out. Right now I'm having serious doubts about my ability to properly select candidates and have to wonder if I'll even bother voting in two years.)

I was walking on the second floor of a motel. The sky was cloudly and the sunlight diffuse like fluorescent lights in an office. Sadly the temperature wasn't hot and humid nor was it the kind of cold which enters your bones and only escapes upon death.

Ahead of me I could hear someone in the throes of passion. I listened for a bit and realized it sounded very familiar. There was a door which was barely closed and I opened it up dreading whatever was behind it. Gray light sliced into the dark room across Lee's thighs and a scrawny and spindly body.

Her long-time boyfriend, the managing editor of the school paper was eating her out. He looked up and I closed the door as quickly and quietly as possible.

I couldn't kill him without hurting her.

Fuck.
