Call me an idiot but my hind brain always tells me that a cube ought to have eight sides.
Whenever I see a cube referred to as a hexahedron I can't think of a cube as being a cube.
Now the third installment in his cycle, wow that's a pretentious way to put it, deals with waking up the frozen humans, curing them and attempting to recreate human civilization all over again with a utopian doctrine. Unfortunately their defrosted population is full of Rich White Men who don't buy into such egalitarian pablum. Two instances of deus ex machina ensue to bring the novel to a rushed ending.
The first two thirds of the book are quite engaging dealing with their failed society, ensuing tensions between the people of New Cambridge, full of Rich White Men and their slaves, and Mount Weather, made up entirely of USA 2: Electric Boogaloo. Towards the end it suddenly becomes "MY CHARACTERS ARE TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL, MAN!!! LOOK AT THEIR PWNAGE!!! THEY'RE POST-HUMANS!!!" What bugs me is the fact that these kids were bred to have the most aggressive immune systems ever in order to survive the ravaged and ruined tombworld in hopes of finding a cure. I was under the impression they were not übermenschen in any other way except maybe being smarter than the average bear and the aforementioned immune system.
Yet the denouement, which I always mentally pronounce as de-noun-ment despite it being day-new-mah, is a bit more satisfying because it shows how the best laid schemes of post-mice and post-humans gang rape gays. How humanity will survive without the best intentions of a chosen, meddling few.
