Against a Dark Background and Use of Weapons have a strange little message on the back, by the UPC code just above the pricing for the books.
"NOT FOR SALE IN THE USA"
lol wut? Funny thing is that one of the books was shipped from the UK. I didn't know that the UK wanted to keep one of their writers from reaching a larger literary market. Heck, if I bought this book when it first came out in the UK and brought it back to the Republic in my luggage would I be considered a smuggler?
Perhaps Gaiman and Pratchett are trying to corner the Republic's remaining reading public, the minority who actually read books rather than yet another iteration of a western holy book whose name simply means "book".

Amazon.com is weird. Iain M. Banks will have another Culture novel come out in February 2008. The book is ready for pre-order at amazon.com but as you can see with this image there's already one copy that's available for purchase as used!
