The stupid sorceress tale about the precursors to the Bene Gesserit was quickly skipped to the tale of the first wormrider. The Norma Cerna or Cerva or whatever was a little interesting but it smacked as dated grrl-power tripe written by male.
Let's take Dies the Fire. The story about Havel and his band of Bearkillers was entertaining and alone would've been worth the price of admission which admittedly was a gift card rather than my hard-earned cash. Anytime I came across a passage that involved Lady Juniper and her evangelizing wiccans I'd feel pain and shame. Oh yeah, I should've capitalized "wiccan" but I'm lazy and don't care.
Don't get me wrong there's much more that's flawed about Left Behind for the SCA Crowd. For example, The Protector is a one-dimensional character who has a great introduction scene but Sterling has blown his load and turned The Protector into a fucking LOTR fanboy using a banner identical to Sauron's banner. Isn't it bad enough that the creepy girl in the Bearkillers is big into fandom? Sadly reading the spoilers of the next two books, since I can't be bothered to read them even if I loan them from the library, there isn't a final showdown between whatsherface and The Protector.
