My quest for a complete set of Cerebus the Aardvark comics took me to a dangerous part of town. Streetlights were unheard of and despite its location in the middle of the city there was little or no light pollution yet I couldn't see any stars. While wandering around this rough neighborhood I kept running across the same gang of people. Just like in real life they frightened me because they were laughing. The reptile part of my brain always interprets such a situation as amusement on the part of my assailants from contemplating battery.

The worst that happened was the usual power-play of bumping shoulders and looking back to see if the other is going to step. Well I got some shots in but ran like a coward. First place where I went to hide ended up being the comic book shop. Way back in a corner I found their Cerebus collection full of covers that I never saw in my life. Ended up wanting to buy more than I could afford which led to shoplifting shenanigans that didn't work out. Mostly because I didn't want to hurt the store and mostly because I was inept and anyone could've smelled my guilt.
