Six Five Four more, nig.
caturday
I accomplished something on Saturday. After a week of dicking around with NetHack and patching I have a decent patched version of NetHack.

There's still more to be done! I found two more patches which make water elementals splash water around, water rusts things, makes water lethal to long worms just like in Dune and finally adds an extra dimension to potions. The final patch appeals to me because it enhances certain monsters.

"e" is the character which represents floating eyes, gas spores and the various elemental spheres. Gas spores violently detonate upon death. Elemental spheres (flaming, freezing and shocking) also explode as their attack. When a gas spore detonates the damage fills 3x3 squares yet when an elemental sphere explodes it just affects the player. Supposedly the sphere patch also makes blessed scrolls of fire something good for the player. Usually scrolls of fire set the player on fire and damage or destroy items. With the sphere patch, a blessed scroll of fire will fill 3x3 squares with fire except for the center square which is where the player is standing.

Earlier when I attempted to use both patches but I got the following error:

patch -p1 < quaff.diff
patching file include/monattk.h
Assertion failed: hunk, file ../patch-2.5.9-src/patch.c, line 354

I emailed the author of both patches about a possible fix.

Now I was going to post a rar archive for the patch but it keeps crashing on me and I'm not about to inflict it's special brand of fail on anyone else.

in yer dreams
Well this sucks. I wrote down the notes for this dream on Saturday morning and I've completely forgotten what brings it all together into a semi-coherent story.
