On Sunday I had computer failure. Somehow my enter key and the buttons on the touchpad would not do a damned thing. My first flawed instinct was to try and use the Linux CDs I have kicking around the apartment. Man I'm glad that this fucking operating system is free since I couldn't get it to do dick or shit. At least Slax and Freesbie would load but the Ubuntu CD just gives me a brown screen after waiting 2 hours. I figured Linux would take a while to compile and set itself up as an operating system but this was egregious. So I reinstalled Windows, preserving the file structure, copied all of MY IMPORTANT AND VALUABLE FILES and went to bed.
Monday was slow. I was the last person to go home and that was at 2:30 p.m.. For the uninitiated my work day ends at 5 p.m.. When work is slow the workday ends at 4 p.m.. So I reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled Windows, reinstalled the drivers and went to the public library to use their wireless connection.
Good lord they have a fast fucking connection plus I was on there for about two hours. I only had to pay for the parking meter. Ended up downloading a few files, Service Pack 4 and other programs that I need to be my idiot self online and offline.
While I transferred a metric fuckton of files from the external backup hard drive to the laptop I was at the supermarket doing groceries. For some reason when it's a gaming night weekend I always do my food shopping on Monday night rather than Saturday night.
Why?
First I thought it would be fun for Jaybird and maribou. Plus Cassius can see the game mastering style used by elmgrows. Plus I figured it'd be keen to play Mouse. Mouse is an orphaned Vietnamese girl who was brought across by the possessed diablerist Gangrel primogen back in Asbury Park. It's a strange May-December romance.
Yet after last Friday I realized what I needed was some variety. I love running Asbury Park by Night (APbN as the cool kids call it) but I needed a little variety. The variety didn't have to be actually roleplaying but doing something else.
At first I was afraid that it would fall flat on its face. My mind's eye could see Jaybird saying he really doesn't want to play Zombies!!! or Fluxx or Settlers of Cataan with maribou being a real sport but eventually excusing herself to go upstairs then Jaybird and Cassius go outside while Jaybird has a smoke and discusses game theory.
Thank you Cassius for introducing us to Zombies!!!.
Thank you elmgrows for using your valuable time and precious imagination to contribute to my humble tale.
Thank you Jaybird and maribou for being such gracious and generous hosts. Wonderful people who play wonderful characters and proved me wrong when it comes to trying new games that aren't vidya games.
Now I'm itching to inflict myself once again upon these folks but I can wait.
