Tuesday's lunch came with an unexpected companion. A black labrador retriever ran from the lower parking lot and up the flight of stairs towards the building where I work. I whistled and she came over to me. Already I felt bad about having finished my meal and having nothing left to share.
She sniffed around and made tinkle in the bushes. Seconds later she jumped up on the picnic table's bench and sniffed around on the tabletop!
In the distance I could hear someone calling and I was relieved. If the pup didn't have anyone and was a stray, I'd be besides myself wondering what to do let alone the truckloads of remorse if I just went back inside after lunch and left the pooch up to her own devices.
Now the dog was very well mannered. When I walked, she walked beside me and when I stopped she stopped and waited for my next step. We went down to the lower parking lot and I shoo'ed her over to these people who were tinkering with their van.
Bah, I wish she could've stayed to play.
Fortunately, Spot didn't notice that I had any interaction with dogs. Out of guilt and her pathetic and anorexic meows I gave her wet food for dinner.
