As always, heptapod.org is proud to bring you last week's news.

George W. Bush comes within a cunthair of stating the Republic is at war with Islam.

Vote out the incumbents and as much as it may pain you, don't vote Republican in 2008.

Thank you for your patience.

Recently I downloaded GIMP. I guess it's okay but the interface isn't that intuitive. Plus the program doesn't have its own workspace, it's just a floating toolbar and images open in separate windows.

Wednesday was host to a major arrest in Great Britain. Twenty people or more were accused of plotting to destroy planes during their transatlantic flights to the Republic with binary explosives. Binary explosives mean innocuous chemical number one is mixed with innocuous chemical number two to make a volatile compound.

Since NPR's version of the story was pretty brief, bordering on trite, I sought the airwaves for an all-news radio station. Back in Jersey there's 1010 WINS, give them twenty two minutes they'll give you the world. 1010 WINS is an indispensible resource much like New Jersey 101.5's frequent traffic updates.

Colorado Springs's FM dial ended up useless being a mishmash of country, rock and roll no one really likes but they play anyway in addition to top forty music. Well I figured I'd scan the AM dial and found nothing but staticky stations, some of which were broadcasting religious stuff. Yet all the way at the right hand side of the dial I stumbled upon a radio station which immediately caught my fancy.

1530 AM, KCMN, plays old music. Sure they play some new stuff from the eighties but their playlist is full of really good stuff. Some of it reminds me of spending my younger years with my father at his place of business. My grandfather would have the radio set to WPAT Easy 93. The music would get annoying after a while but hearing it so much engendered a fondness for the genre.

Let me tell you that this little station is gaining so many points in my personal scorebook. It's 11:51 p.m. on 8/11/06 and they're playing John Pizzarelli's "I Like Jersey Best"! As soon as I heard the opening lyrics "Travelling down the Turnpike, heading for the shore" I wondered "Why the fuck is some station in the sticks and rocks of Colorado would be playing this song?

Fucking beautiful. I could cry. Plus the song's hilarious. Unfortunately just reading the lyrics doesn't convey how the section starting "Our famous Parkway is the darkway" is sung like Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side.

Putting that aside, there's a fucking Sinatra show at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Guess who's morbidly obese and will be listening to the radio? It sure as hell isn't a little white cat with black spots.

shameless whore
I'll love you for fucking ever if anyone can get me the MP3 of John Pizzarelli's "I Like Jersey Best".
