"Write what's on your mind."
"I don't have anything on my mind."
After Sunday's late breakfast, I had a small epiphany. George W. Bush is attempting to install a kinder and gentler regime akin to Kim Jong Il's North Korea. No, he's not creating enormous prison camps nor is he forcing people to wear little cloisonne pins bearing his countenance.
After 9/11, GWB has implemented draconian measures to prevent another 9/11. Also note that gas prices have been steadily rising ever since that event. Flying has become expensive and the TSA thugs have made the endeavor a chore that may foil one's plans by missing the flight. People would think, "Hey, I can drive and only have to deal with lowbrow troglodytes on a local and state level rather than dipshit federal agents!" Now gasoline is maintaining new highs and making the act of driving one that would give anyone pause. George W. Bush is attempting to keep people where they are in case it's necessary to declare martial law or heaven forbid start transporting citizens to FEMA cum mercy camps. Everyone is still free to travel but only if they can afford it.
Kim Jong Il should take note, should there ever be any visitors from the .kp top level domain, that it's better to manipulate people and give the illusion of freedom rather than maintaining fear to protect the government.
The very fact that people are spendthrifts, buying things they want but don't need, is a sign of a disease in society. People feel there is no real hope, no real future and might as well cash in while they still draw breath. For example, Israelis would max out their credit cards and buy tons of shit with the idea that the next time they board a bus they'll be disembarking through a window in bite-sized pieces thanks to Omar, Mahmoud or Abdullah.
Pessimism is the order of the day and the current regime is doing nothing to end it nor is it encouraging Americans to see the bright side, the silver lining on the storm cloud.
