Saturday morning started with Spot waking up raddidge. A little later Jaybird came by and we were off to King's Chef for breakfast. I had green chili for the first time and it was an odd experience. Green chili is very hot and sweet. One thing disturbed me was the fact that I thought I found one or two pieces of cheese in it. raddidge took two spoonfuls and I carefully ate around any questionable portions of the dish. The rest of my breakfast was good. Jaybird discussed religion, mostly how the number of the beast is 616 not 666, with some guy who kept mentioning how he reads "blogs".
We caught Kung Fu Hustle which is really, really good. Most movies have me feeling like I've been shorted, shown a movie that was ninety minutes but felt like it only covered thirty minutes. The story was minimal, not surprising since it was a showcase for martial arts, but the entire product was very engaging and I would not have felt cheated if I did pay full price instead of matinee.
raddidge and I spent most of the afternoon playing Katamari Damacy which is awfully fun. Our evening was rounded out with the Chinese buffet, a discussion about the nature of warfare and Mother's Day. On the surface my suggestion to outlaw gunpowder would make me seem like a hippy peacenik. My belief is that if someone is to truly be a warrior, they have to have the capacity to look into someone's eyes in the heat of combat then extinguish that person's life with the thrust of a knife or beating in that individual's skull with their fists. Firearms makes war far too simple on an individual's psyche and requires less training for the soldier.
Mother's Day is an empty holiday. If one only expresses honor or love for one's mother on a day established by greeting card companies then one doesn't really love their mother. The same goes for fathers. All people should celebrate the lives of their parents every day or on a regular basis.
Kung Fu Hustle made me sad because it was definitely the kind of movie that would get everyone in the gaming group together and head out as a pack to the theater. Seriously it's not a musical, it's not a comedy, it's a really good martial arts movie that has the balls not to take itself seriously and entertains the audience.
Eventually the maze led to a landing and stairs leading up to an eighties video arcade. For the kids playing along at home, there used to be upright video games operated by depositing a quarter. I dragged my soggy ass up on the landing and trudged up the stairs into the flashing noise. The fucker had escaped me and none of the kids knew his whereabouts or even saw the freak storm through the room.
Twilight was upon the land, I reckon it was dusk not dawn, as I looked across Whipple Street which crossed Darwin Avenue. Heaving a deep sigh, I ran down Darwin, opened a manhole and began the chase all over again.
Very Japanese in the presentation and gameplay. Katamari Damacy makes me happy.
